Biography

Peter Ruggle is a Swiss lawyer with over 25 years of practice experience in corporate and commercial law, financial regulation, and dispute resolution. Trained at the University of St. Gallen, where he also served as Assistant at the Institute of Public Finance and Fiscal Law, Peter gained early judicial experience as Legal Secretary and Substitute Judge at the District Court of Meilen before being admitted to the Zurich Bar in 1998. Since then, he has practiced as Associate and Partner with leading Zurich law firms.

Peter’s corporate and commercial practice covers the full spectrum of business law, including corporate finance, banking and capital markets, and mergers and acquisitions. He supports companies through all stages of their development — from start-up formation and financing structures to complex cross-border transactions. His contract expertise spans national and international agreements as well as specialized IT and licensing contracts, ensuring clear legal frameworks for business implementation and growth.

Peter is a certified SBA mediator with extensive training in mediation and more than two decades of arbitration experience. He has served as arbitrator and counsel in numerous domestic and international proceedings conducted under both ad hoc and institutional rules, including ICC, Swiss Rules, DIS, VIAC, CEPANI, and HKIAC. Beyond his practice, he leads the Professional Group Mediation at the Zurich Bar Association and contributes actively to the Swiss Arbitration Association (ASA), fostering knowledge exchange and the advancement of best practices in arbitration and mediation.

In parallel to his consulting and mediation practice, Peter has regularly contributed to leading legal commentaries and international practitioner publications. His work in the Basle Commentary covers areas of civil procedure, jurisdiction, and cooperative law. Internationally, he has authored chapters in the IBA’s Mediation Techniques series and published in the International Financial Law Review on topics such as taxation, corporate governance, and financial regulation. His writing combines academic and professional perspectives, with a focus on civil law systems and cross-border dispute resolution.
